A few days ago, just before jumping into the car
and hurtling non-stop down to that there
London, I reached into a box buried in the
front room and grabbed a bunch of CDs for the
road. The box I selected happened to be full
of S's and, in addition to a couple of albums
each by Stereolab and Spoon, three fine debut
LPs contributed to the soundtrack of our
journey to, from and around the big smoke.
'Mano' by The Spinanes from 1993,
'Vivadixiesubmarinetransmissionplot' by
Sparklehorse from 1995 and 'Reckless Burning'
by Jesse Sykes & the Sweet Hereafter from
2002. Here's a sample from each.
Hope you had good trip down to the Smoke...
ReplyDeleteInteresting selection! 'S' was always the largest section in the record shop racks I seem to remember. I wonder why so many names begin with S? A quick glance over at the S's on the CD shelves here reveals the same, from Saint Etienne to Suede and so much in between!
Nice little compilation of tracks. Yes, 'S' always seems to be the most popular letter, doesn't it? Funny, two of my own terrible bands had names that began with 'S' - didn't make the album racks, though.
ReplyDeleteCome to think of it, the only real band I was ever in, had a name beginning with 'S' too.
ReplyDeleteGreat selection there TS sounds like a pleasant journey to me.
