Birds of Hell

The lo-fi childhood reminiscences of 'Hometown Rage', the new single by Birds of Hell (a.k.a. Pete Murdoch), hint at some tough times in the past. The song ends with a charming 78rpm recording of Pete's late Grandmother's voice echoing down the years, which he gently sings along with to genuinely moving effect. Buy the single here.

Elsewhere, in 'Ransom', the subject matter is dark and so is the humour. Check out more tunes by Birds of Hell here.

I was sorry to hear about your recent aggravation, Mr. S!! You seem to have the patience of Job, as they say. How's the car doing now? Were you able to transfer your files from the old laptop? I backup every couple of days now because of two near disasters. I hope you're happily listening to tunes in a big cozy chair with a mug of hot tea at your elbow.

I wonder what song his grandmother was singing on the 78 . . .

Rather wonderful. Another one to track down. I note he found a dirty mag in a bag whilst out and about. Where do you find all this stuff (the music, not the mags)?

Never heard this before but it has a lot of charm. I think I go and check out more of this.

Marie. The car is booked into the garage for Wednesday - hopefully it won't be anything too serious - so I still haven't been able to pick up the old laptop. I'm looking into external hard-drives at the moment, though my last one of those crashed and I lost a ton of music and photos forever. Perhaps I'll get two external hard-drives and double back-up this time! Where do I stop?

Singing Bear. Glad you enjoyed the tunes. Pete's actually quite local, although unfortunately I haven't caught him live yet. I'll report back when I do.

Walter. Glad enjoyed the tunes too. There's a particularly lovely song on his Soundcloud page titled 'Our Beautiful Boys', which he wrote thinking about Nick Cave after he tragically lost his son earlier this year.

I can now admit publicly that I have two backup hard drives (just in case, you know? . . .)

;-)

Hope fixing your car doesn't leave you and Mrs. S. eating Kraft dinner for the next month!
