The video contained within the previous post must rank as one of the weirdest oddities that I've ever shared. Today though, it's a return to serious business. A couple of weeks ago, Iggy Pop announced the impending release of his new album, 'Post Pop Depression', on Stephen Colbert's Late Show. 'Post Pop Depression' is produced by Josh Homme, who also plays on the album along with fellow Queen of the Stoneager Dean Fertita and Matt Helders of Arctic Monkeys. On the night, the ad hoc band turned in terrific live versions of two songs from the record, 'Gardenia' and 'Break Into Your Heart'.

I enjoyed watching these, Mr. S. (Gardenia, in particular.) Being "a vintage kind o' gal", I hesitate to comment on music that I haven't really followed, but the vocal style here reminded me so much of David Bowie. (She ducks, as an unidentified object is hurled in her direction . . .)
I love a bit of Iggy. Glad he's still doing good stuff.
Thanks Marie. Iggy released a couple of well respected, Bowie produced, albums in 1977 and to a certain extent, he seems to be working in a similar sonic area to those again, at least from what I've heard of this new stuff. It's been a long while since I've been this ridiculously excited about a new Iggy Pop record.

I like the sound of these new songs. I often like Iggy himself more than the records he releases (though in his time he has released some belters). Good to hear there's life in the old dog yet.
i will not be surprised if that particular band becomes a staple of the European outdoor festival circuit this coming summer.
Iggy has always been great fun live, be interesting to see though if age is finally forcing him to calm down a bit nowadays.
