While idly browsing the old interweb the other day, I happened to notice that the splendidly named record label, Iron Mountain Analogue Research Facility, recently issued Volume 3 of their 'Hillbillies in Hell' compilation series. This was a surprise to me, as until that very moment I was unaware that there'd even been a Volume 2. I shall be chasing down these omissions from my collection forthwith, but in the meantime can heartily recommend Volume 1's tales of drug abuse, suicide and all manner of additional dark subject matters, performed by largely under-the-radar artists in a loosely Country / Rockabilly style. The fuzzy Gospel of 'I'm Tired of You, Satan', by the otherwise anonymous Wayne, Pat & Keith, is one of the album's jauntier moments.

Great album cover. Shockingly, the Louvin Brothers are nowhere to be found on any of these volumes, but there are plenty of great numbers. May have to get this one too

I bought the vinyl album on its' release and can tell you it's wonderfully OTT, but especially - Troy Hess' "Please Don't Go Topless, Mother", "Rock & Roll Killed My Mother" by The Hi Fi Guys, 8 Weeks in a Barroom by Ramblin' Red Bailey and the batshit crazy "Too Many Pills" by Arkey Blue & The Blue Cowboys. All those songs are more than awesome.
Blimey, that went down well! I intended posting something from the album ages ago, but the thought got lost in the pile. I'm glad I got around to it now though. Thanks to FurryBootsCityBoy for the 'God Less America' tip, which is also available on eMusic if anyone's interested - I'm downloading it as I type.
Bit late to this one but yeah - I adore that album cover and the song's got something - like the lyrics especially. Whilst familiar with the murder ballad thing, just looking at FurryBootsCityBoy's list of wonderful titles, I feel there is a whole world out there about which I had no idea!
Love it..sounds like a dated Hansome Family, in a nice way of course!
