A splendid figure of a man don't you agree? I'm assuming he's a butcher and that it might be a leg or thigh wrapped up and tucked away under his arm. Whatever his trade, I wouldn't like to mess with him - he doesn't look the sort to suffer fools gladly. He's a recent car-boot sale acquisition.
The majority of my small collection of old photos are tucked away in boxes and albums, but a select few grace the wall I face as I type these words - including my friend the pipe smoking butcher. I love the photos you share with us, sir, and this is no exception. This one looks like it was from the time when 'men were men'. Not sure what that means but there's something reassuring in there somewhere. As for Luke Howard - new to me and wow. I will be off to his web-site post-haste.

Once again a fabulous old picture - thanks for sharing - and more, please! I really want to know the stories of these folk, but I suspect that part of the fascination is actually in not knowing.

C. I'd love to know their stories too. The butcher's photo was taken in Loughborough, but that's all the information I have. I'll certainly dig out some more shots to share.

That's a great pic, when Men were Men as SB says. I love the idea of acquiring old portraits, fascinating to know what these folk lives were like. In fact when I was in Paris earlier this year, my wife and I were wondering through some vintage shops and came across a box full of old photos, letters and postcards. Forgotten times, just things just sitting in a box, stuff that used to mean something to someone one day. It was sad but if, like you, you buy them it's like you give them a second life. I'm rambling....perfect music to wonder to the photo.
