Version City #55 - Visqueen sing Jacky
I first heard Visqueen's spooky interpretation of the popular 1968 TV theme 'White Horses' on an episode of Andrew Weatherall's 'Music's Not For Everyone' radio show back in the summer. This oddly disturbing reading of a seemingly innocent little song has just been released on a compilation, 'Easy Listening Vol.1', through Must Die Records. The tunes on 'Easy Listening Vol.1' emanate from the Tse Tse Fly multimedia art cooperative in Dubai and range from the mildly haunting to the frankly terrifying. None are what I'd necessarily think of as easy listening. If the sound of 'White Horses' whets your appetite, you can check out the whole album here - if you dare.

Wow, as I write primarily about memories, the song by Jacky (or Jackie Lee as it turned out) was one of the first I wrote about back in January. Here we are in November and a totally different version of the song I would never have heard of probably had it not been for this place. Thanks for posting it.
Alyson. The original recording of 'White Horses' is one of those songs that produces a Proustian rush of involuntary memories for me. Even back in 1968 it sounded as if it had been beamed in from another time. I just searched out the post you mentioned, a lovely piece of writing. I'm glad you enjoyed Visqueen's unconventional take.
Thanks for checking out my post - It was my first week of blogging so I hadn't quite found my style yet but when the song came to mind I just knew I had to write about it. I think for most people of a certain age it produces (hopefully) happy memories. Great that 50 years on bands are still finding new ways of recording it.
