All Change

The time has finally come and it really has been a long time coming. While generations are born, raise families, grow old and die, I sit and wait for a single page to load on my computer - and when it finally does, I pray that it doesn't cause the hard-drive to crash into blue screen mode. How the darned thing hasn't been thrown out of the window at some point in the past couple of years, I truly don't know. So anyway, the short and long of it is that after much emptying of pockets, rummaging down the sides of sofas and raiding of piggy-banks, I've ordered a new Dell laptop, which should hopefully be arriving at Swede Towers within the next 48 hours. I mention all this to forewarn that normal service might be even more sporadic than usual while I familiarise myself with the comparatively cutting edge technology that's currently winging its way in my direction. If I get a chance I'll schedule a couple of posts to tide me over the bedding-in period, though, as ever, time is tight at the mo'. Also, the endless waiting for, and re-booting of, this old steam driven computer is doing nothing for my stress levels.

In other news, I've nearly finished removing the jewel-cases from all of my CD's (as mentioned here). In the process of carrying out this fingernail shredding task, I've unearthed a veritable mountain of tunes that I hope to share in the future. I've also had bright ideas for a couple of potential new features that may (or may not) crop up round these parts at some point. I haven't actually written anything down yet though, so that's a worry - I might well forget it all by tomorrow.

To commemorate the various changes currently taking place in my part of the world, here are Sparks, with a favourite of mine from 1985.

Good luck with the new computer. Windows 10? I'm still on (deep breath) Vista! (runs away in shame). Really looking forward to some posts about here forgotten gems. A bit of Sparks is always good.

I'm still with Vista too, that's why I'm a bit daunted by what's coming. Technofear!

I was clinging to my little Windows XP for the longest time, then it became my back-up until it picked up a virus just a few days ago. I'm going to hang on to my Windows 7 for as long as possible (though I notice it's starting to heat up very quickly now - guess the fan's going.) I tried out Windows 8 and absolutely HATED it! I hear that they've brought back the much-missed START button on Windows 10, at least.

I hope you've unearthed a few vintage gems while sorting through your long-buried collection. ;-)

Good luck and hope to see you here again soon raving about how easy it all is!
Always a daunting thing to do, though. I bought a refurbished one a little while back, so I could still have Windows 7 on it as all the new ones were Windows 8 and I didn't want that after everything I'd heard (just as VS remarks too). This one has served me really well but is getting tired now too so I'm going to have to think about a replacement soon, I know. I just keep putting it off as I have such a complicated set-up here (because of all the artwork scanning I have to do and the lack of space in which to do it) that it always feels like a massive deal!

Very exciting, Swede. If you end up with Windows 10, let us know how it works out... and avoid Windows 8 like the plague. Write those ideas down. If you're like me, your moments of genius will blow away with the next gust, and it's so frustrating. Love this Sparks tune.

All the best for you and your new laptop. I still use Windows 7 and no bigger problems yet.

You might find Windows 10 slightly odd if you've never encountered Windows 8 or 8.1. I did find 8 and 8.1 very annoying at first, but, well, I just had to get used to them. I'm not really convinced 10 is much better than 8.1, though, after geting used to 8.1. Found myself really liking that Sparks song.

My Mini Mac can't be long away from being put out to pasture. The Number One Son is on a mission to keep 'em peeled for something new or pre-loved to replace her.
