Meet the Beetles

Back in the day (the day being a couple of hundred years ago), the walls separating our gaff from next door didn't exist and it was all one house. For the past 120 years or so, the building has been divided roughly 2/3 & 1/3, with internal doors still linking them both on each floor. When we moved in nearly 3 years ago, these final connections were boarded over and sealed up for good. Needless to say, we live in the 1/3 bit and recently a young couple moved in to 'the big house' next door.

Over the past couple of weeks our new neighbours have been doing some serious demolition of internal walls, ceilings and staircases, as part of a major renovation of the old place, causing occasional dust storms to surge up through our floorboards. The banging and crashing has also disturbed other residents of both properties. We've noticed higher numbers of spiders and beetles than usual hanging out in our pad, many presumably seeking refuge from the temporary chaos next door. Here's one I escorted from the premises earlier.

Any excuse to spin the Fabs... (Belated birthday greetings Sir Macca!)

Sorry to hear about the disruption - you totally have my sympathy, as it's something we know about only too well having had both houses directly either side of us completely renovated since we moved in. When one of them was basically gutted in the process it felt and sounded like they were actually inside our house and we half expected to see hammers and chisels coming through the walls at any moment! (Our bathroom work pales by comparison but revenge could still be quite sweet...)
Good luck.

Love the beetle pic. As you probably already realise, I'm a fan!

They're a really nice couple, which is a relief - we had some real neighbours from hell in our previous house. After a couple of years of total silence next door to an empty property, we're happy to put up with a bit of banging about, especially as they are sorting out some new fencing for our garden too! Those dust storms were a bit of a concern though!

Good luck with the noise! I sympathise completely. Has to be done, I suppose. Still, perhaps you'll unearth quite a few more interesting species of bug previously unknown to mankind. As for the dust storms, might I suggest a little Woody Guthrie? Belated happy birthday, Macca.

Interesting vocal onlyish version! I have had a bad neighbour for a couple of years here. She was fine most of the time but when she had drink she wanted to party....I don't mind a party, but not at 3 in the morning....luckily she has gone now.
