Version City #28 - Happy Birthday Ray Davies
Many happy returns to Ray Davies, who hits
the big 7-0 today. His legendary catalogue
has been a popular source of cover material
for nearly 50 years and here are three of my
favourites, from The Nomads, Gravenhurst and
Steve Wynn.

has to be one of my favourite versions of This Strange Effect.
Happy birthday Ray...born on the cusp of Gemini and Cancer, no wonder he's a complicated soul!
When a song writer writes songs for 50 years over his whole career that say how you feel & think there is only 1 name for him Ray Davies the undisputed world champion of songwriters! - F. Lima
C. That's a new one on me - I like it. Actually I did have another contender for that slot (here), but Steve just got the nod. (I don't know the code to embed links in the comments section, I just write my piece in Blogger as if I was creating a post, then cut and paste the results. Hey presto!)
Wonderboy. Welcome...and well said!
Happy B'day, Ray! Yes, you're a true English great. These are some nice covers.
Interesting to hear a rockier version of This Strange Effect, thanks for sharing these covers
