Today is the 35th anniversary of Marc
Bolan's tragic and untimely death. His
impact on my life is incalculable and
continues to resonate down the years.
Here's the final track on 'Dandy in the Underworld', the last album issued in his lifetime.

I can remember hearing Metal Guru for the first time; I didn't know what was going on but I sure as hell loved it. As a prepubescent twelve year old, the sight of delirious fifteen year old girls being pushed round on the Waltzers (That'll Be The Day style) with T Rex as the soundtrack is a memory still filed away in my mind's filing cabinet.
Like your good self, Marc was my true musical hero between the ages of 11 and about 13, when T. Rex released all their seminal hits. My tastes may have changed a little as time moved on but I have never, ever stopped listening to loving the music of Marc Bolan. I feel privileged to have had him as my first music icon and wouldn't have it any other way. Rock on, boppin' elf. 35 years? Unbelievable.
Was fan ever since Ride a White Swan...still a fan today....35 years.....help!!!!!
I used to drive past 'that' tree on the edge of Barnes Common every day for a while - it made me shiver every time. I always remember seeing the Jam (for the first time probably) on his TV show - a man ahead of the curve and a fine dresser to boot.
Thanks for your comments all. Nice memory John - I can see why that would've stuck!
35 years gone and yet here we all are, still listening to him - still talking about him. I wonder how many of the current crop will be remembered with such affection.
