Where some artists introduce themselves with a straightforward, self-titled debut, Nicaraguan/American Dagmar Zuniga offered 'in filth your mystery is kingdom / far smile peasant in yellow music' as her opening musical statement, initially via cassette only early in 2025, with a vinyl release belatedly following in Spring of this year.
The album is an atmospheric, analogue affair, recorded directly onto a TASCAM 4-track, giving an unsettling, dreamlike quality to the fourteen fragile songs, seven of which stop shy of the two minute mark, with only three stretching beyond three minutes.
Imagine stumbling upon a late night station on a detuned radio - the signal drifting in and out. Songs, some seemingly little more than sketches, crumble into the background static, either ending abruptly or fading into the ether. If you, like me, loved the woozy lo-fi netherworld created by Cindy Lee on the remarkable 'Diamond Jubilee' a couple of years ago, you should probably check this one out.
