Version City #7
Well this is interesting. It's neither an alternative take or cover version, yet still it differs from the original....which actually it is! Confused? Me too. You won't be surprised to hear that technology is not my strong point, but there appears to be a bit of software out there that allows the individual notes within a tune to be digitally manipulated - a sort of DIY remix tool. To demonstrate, an anonymous online presence has taken the all too familiar 'Losing My Religion' by REM and amended many of the minor chords to major and the result is a revelation. Love the band though I do, it's been a very long time since I've felt the need to listen to the song, but I've been playing this 'new' interpretation on and off all day. See what you think.

That's just really weeeiiiird!
I'm not keen on this I have to say, but I think perhaps part of the reason is that my brain is fighting against the fact that it's not hearing what it thinks it knows, if that makes sense. So it sounds warped. Which in a way I suppose it is!
I think I might prefer majors turned into minors too rather than the other way around?
Interesting, nonetheless, though I hope it doesn't catch on, I'll get very confused ;-)
I like it...its weird and maybe 'C' has got it right, it's not what your mind is expecting...saying that I like it a lot. I am sure there will be a big REM revival or loads of solo projects in the near future...bring it on!
I like this but am worried that all sorts of 'revisions' of classic songs may now start appearing. How the hell does this software do this?? It's a funny old world we live in. Of course, now we can have 'happy' versions of many minor chord dirge - how about an versions of Dylan's 'North Country Blues' or 'Hollis Brown'? Ha!
It does throw you a bit doesn't it? Having long since tired of the original, I found this enjoyable and refreshing, but I too hope we won't be deluged by thousands of naff home re-workings of songs we know and love.
