Monday Long Song

In the summer of 2020, Grant Beyschau (trading as Tambourinen), released 'Wooden Flower' on the cassette only Avant Unity Music label. Multi-instrumentalist Beyschau is best known for being one fifth of the current incarnation of far out Arizona psych merchants The Myrrors. With one listen of 'Wooden Flower' I was hooked and, given no indication of a more user friendly format on the visible horizon, snapped up one of the 100 tapes produced. Fast forward to the end of the year and the ever dependable Cardinal Fuzz imprint popped up with an LP release, limited to 500 copies. I was delighted to be honest - that cassette was never going to be played.

80s Walkman seem to be enjoying moment, have seen a few people with them. Get yourself on trend with a Walkman Swede and play that cassette!

You guys may have gone for different styles or Rock, but there's an improvisational link with your Long Songs this Monday...

Swiss Adam: This wasn't the first time that I picked up a cassette when there was no other physical format available. I'm a sucker for a tangible object to go along with my download.

Echorich: Improvisational noodling is my default setting these days.

I hear you, Swede. Downloads just aren't enough for me either. This photo looks like it may have been taken in my neck of the woods. It is packed away, but I still have a Walkman. Still have my Technics dual cassette deck in the music room (gets used occasionally). Still have a car with a cassette player (gets used often). Really is an inferior format in so many ways, but I find it comforting. Try making a mix tape. You will be shocked at how long it takes with that whole real time thing.

Oh yes Brian, the hours we spent creating those compilation tapes! Labours of love!
