Years and Years and Years

Today I turn 60. Excuse me for a moment while I double check those numbers.....60. Shit. Yes, I'm definitely 60. If the world wasn't where it is, I would be celebrating with the family in New York right now. But instead of walking over the Brooklyn Bridge to track down a suitable birthday brunch location, instead of rummaging through the dusty bins of my favourite Williamsburg second-hand record store, instead of hitting a dive bar or two with my cousin's husband and instead of watching the sun go down across Lower Manhattan with a huge slice of pizza in my hand, instead of all those things...., I'll start the day by creating the largest veggie fry-up I can muster from the darkest corners of the fridge, wash it down with a pot or two of fabulous coffee (Honduras Pedro Ayala since you ask), take a walk down the lane and around a field or two and then head off to work for a few hours. This evening there are plans afoot to hang out with a couple of close chums on Skype, while quaffing the odd glass or three of red. There'll probably also be tunes and crisps involved.

Just rechecking those numbers again one last time. Yep, I'm definitely 60. Bloody hell, how did that happen?

A very happy birthday TS from me and Mr SDS - and forget the numbers, they mean nothing! We'll raise a glass to you tonight.

Happy 60th to you, Swede!

Happy Birthday, Mr. S! Forget the number - it's irrelevant. I think it's how you feel in yourself. (My own theory is that an obsessive interest in music and other interests helps to maintain that "youthful energy and outlook.")

I'd kill for a decent cup of coffee - grrrrrr - I must be hallucinating, but I can almost smell yours brewing!

Have a great "party" tonight!

Ah, had thought it was today as looked back to previous years, but now you've confirmed it. Sorry you're not spending your day as you had hoped but have yourself the best birthday you can - What with the get-together via skype and the glasses of wine it will be sweet I'm sure.

Many Happy Returns and as C says, it's just a number.

Happy birthday to you Swede.
Just think that once this is all over you will get to use your free bus pass!
It won't get you as far as New York unfortunately

Christ on a bike, TS! You being 60 is too close for comfort; I remember only too well your Britvic birthday - God, was that really five years ago?
Seriously, though - have a great day + evening + night + hangover!

See you in Edinburgh - come hell or high water.

Happy birthday Swede. Have as good a birthday as you can under the circumstances. I shall raise a glass to you later on.

Many thanks for the birthday greetings one and all. I had a pretty good day, given the circumstances. I was given two cases of Adnams by my work colleagues (they know me so well!) and had a couple of late evening boozy online chats with friends when I got home. Then I woke this morning to find that Bob Dylan had dropped another new song overnight. Beer and Bob, that'll do nicely!

Happy belated birthday! In these times, sounds like you have made the most of it. My youngest has a birthday on Sunday. Fortunately, I shopped for him in early March when the writing was on the wall. We are ready to give him the best birthday we can.

Happy belated birthday Swede and welcome to the club. As the others already said forget the number it means nothing at all and be sure nothing has changed when you crossed the border to 60.
