Ah, I do love a bit of Mozza! I'd never heard any of these covers before and think it's quite amazing how he manages to make each sound like HIS song, somehow (well give or take the Bryan Ferry impersonation...) But it especially works well with Drive-In Saturday (a fave tune anyway!) Great stuff - thanks!
There are a few more interesting covers knocking around the interweb; 'My Insatiable One', 'A Song From Under The Floorboards' and New York Dolls' 'Trash' among them. He's got good taste - time for his own Pin-Ups?
All of these are shockingly good. Having not taken any notice of Morrissey for a long time I wonder whether I should return to his table? I must say that I am over the moon about him taking on 'Nothing Rhymed' and hope that one day he will consider a cover of 'We Will'. 'Drive-In Saturday' works perfectly and 'You Say You Don't Love Me' could be written for him. Yes, it is time for his own 'Pin Ups'.
Like you I stepped off the Morrissey train some time ago, 'You Are the Quarry' being the last album I spent any time with. Moz had great pop sensibilities, but seemed to mislay them in his hiatus years. Perhaps a 'Pin-Ups' style LP would re-acquaint him with his muse.
